The open source approach to software is
gaining interest in the educational area. There are many
reasons for that. Some institutions want to customize the
platform in order to respond to their particular
requirements, either to provide support for a particular
pedagogical approach, to present a particular look-and-feel,
or a specific functionality. Having full control of the
platform can only be achieved in an open source setting. The
total cost of ownership also plays an increasingly important
role. As existing solutions improve in quality and adoption
rates, more and more institutions are looking into it as an
alternative.
This Special Edition of IJCEELL wants to
present the recent developments in this area from different
points of view. Quality papers are invited on all topics
related to open source educational software.
