After installing the virtualization application, we now download the virtual machine itself. The file containing all the information about the machine occupies 3 Gigabytes. We recommend to download these files from a computer in the university connected by Ethernet cable (not wifi) because the speed will be much higher. Due to the size of this file and the fragmented download, it is possible that you need up to 13 Gigabytes of free space in your hard drive, although after installation, it will never occupy more than 8 Gigabytes.
The files of the virtual machine can be accessed through the “Course Virtual Machine Download Files”.
The easiest path to install is to download the heavy .ova
file, which is useful if you have a broadband Internet connection:
TELECO_EN_2017.ova
The following video shows the next steps to, once VirtualBox
is installed, and the extension pack and the file
TELECO_EN.ova
are downloaded, install and start the
virtual machine.
The installed Linux version is “Kubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx”.
